Salt Pond Settlement Day 3. Land excursion

We explored by land today. Rented a car and went all the way to the south end. There are 70 churches on this island...Some very old, all beautiful! The oldest church her is circa 1500!!!!! Said to have been built by the Spanish.

We also went to the old salt ponds from the 1700's were the slaves had to cut canals through the rock to connect the salt ponds to the ocean.  And an old salt factory used by Diamond Crystal Salt Factory.

This is a beautiful island but it's the people here that make it enchanting. ...It's one of those places where Phil and I say " We could live here"
