Long Island Salt Pond Day 5 "The Caves"

Phil just told me Long Island is not part of the Exumas.   We are in the Far Bahamas. Thinking about going on to the Crooked Islands on Saturday after fueling the Pearl up tomorrow.  It looks like we have a good window of weather! It will take us 2 short days...or 1 long one. Not sure which way  we are doing yet. We plan on staying  a couple of days then head back to Georgetown.
This island is loaded with caves and blue holes. Phil counted 40 to 50 blue holes on the chart and who how many caves! The Indians and Pirates used them for hiding out. The locals still use them as hurricane shelters.
We were shown a  cave by the people we rented the car from so we went back today to explore it. We had another great day here in Salt Pond. Fishing is real good.

Entrance to cave

As far as I got...bats were everywhere!

Phil making his way down

all I could see of him was his flashlight!

After his exploration...still such a boy!!!

I made my 1st conch salad tonight. It's like siveche but you add more things. We had 3 conchs until.......As Phil was finishing cleaning the last one he dropped it over board :(  Oh well hard come easy go!!
